Ah, characters. There's nothing like them. One of the joys of writing novels is to see who shows up for a book.

We're all looking forward to Jeff's next book. And I couldn't agree more on Barb and Rob being the most supportive team on the planet. We're all very lucky.

Oh ye of little faith. I'm sure Eric and I would do a mean duet rendition of that Nancy Byrd Turner classic...

Everything is black and gold,
Black and gold tonight;
Yellow pumpkins, yellow moon,
Yellow candlelight;

Black and gold, black and gold,
Nothing in between----
When the world turns black and gold,
Then it's Halloween!

Although we probably should be wearing pillow cases when we do.

Jeff, Eric recited The Back and The Gold as his Halloween turn in those long ago days before feens began to show up on the night with a snarl and pillow cases for the lootl. But somehow I doubt the Black and Gold you mention had anything to do with a recitation or pillowcases. The snarl now....

My mystery is under review by a couple of publishers right now. Does that disqualify it from submission to the contest or does the rule about submission only apply to submissions once it is sent to you?

Joanne, I swear I met that Pittsfield cop when I lived in Lenox, and was an early member of the Rape Crisis Center. One of our jobs was public speaking, and I must have met him then. Mike somebody. (?) Funny and big and charming. I love your friend's comment about confessing anything to "that man." Charlie conveys the same kind of trust, I think.

Thanks for introducing me to your blog. I look forward to reading more of it. Cheers! Susan
